Classic Miami Beach Building to Be Reinvented

Among the many classic buildings in Miami Beach, the old Firestone service station on Alton Road is certainly one of them. The classic building debuted in 1939 and stuck around for decades before closing its doors early last year. After remaining closed, the building may end up being reinvented as a place to munch on gourmet treats.

Yesterday Miami Beach’s design review board gave the okay for the building to be converted into a mixed-use restaurant and retail development featuring al fresco cafe seating, a take out window, and a “super graphic” installation that will be found on an eastern facing blank wall. The new restaurant will be dubbed Al’s and if everything goes according to plan the new eatery will be opening its doors early next year.

The hospitality company that will run Al’s is currently working on more than ten different projects and is also responsible for managing the posh Mondrian South Beach and running late night taco place Bodega Taqueria & Tequila on 16th Street. The company also plans to debut a bar next to Bodega called Ricky’s next month which will feature live music and an arcade.

Are you excited to see the classic Firestone building be reinvented?
